Vitali Klitschko
Retains WBC crown in Germany
Latest |
Ukrainian
boxer Vitali Klitschko retained his WBC title at the
weekend in Germany against Polish challenger Albert
Sosnowski. A crowd of 50,000 gathered at the Veltins
Arena in Gelsenkirchen, to see the fight. Despite a
spirited start and a brave showing from Sosnowski, a
series of mistakes in the tenth round sent the
“Dragon” to the canvas. Klitschko improved to 42-2
(38) after the referee waved it off following a
left-right combination to Sosnowski's head at the
2:30 mark of the 10th round. "I am very happy to
have defended my title. I had really good
preparation and was in top form," said the
38-year-old, who had his brother, IBF and WBO world
heavyweight champ Wladimir, in his corner. Before
the bout, Sosnowski told journalists that he would
“be as cunning as a fox” to overcome Klitschko, who
had more KOs to his name, as well as a big weight
and height advantage. “I’ll be back” responded
Sosnowski 45-2-2(27) when asked where he goes from
here. He now intends to regain his European title,
which he gave up in order to fight Klitschko. |
